Waking up in the middle of the night, feelign restless, the “band“ is playing in your head and
I had fallen in love with a man, who was younger, and he said, that one day he wanted to have a family, I knew I was in the begining of my 40s, and if he wanted children(with me) it had to be now. He left for France and I wrote the song 5 to Midnight, About this dilemma, I didn't know him, but I know time is ticking, and waking up in the middle of the night, and feeling an urgency about hey, if not now, then when. I guess, at the end of the day it is really about time passing, no matter what.
At the same time Berlin had a lot of rules and regulations about bar life, and live music, that were being enforced, and bars and clubs were being shut down. Us as musicians felt very pressured, and I guess this came through in this song as well.
We recorded this song in Copenhagen and Berlin and for the live atmosphere we recorded at the KINDLE STUBEN open mic, a weekly meeting for Berlin songwriters, it is like a rock'n”roll/folk church, hosted by David Stewart Ingleton, I have debuted all my album songs of this album there.
lyrics
5 TO MIDNIGHT
It's 5 to midnight and the band just started to play
My heart is pounding and my angels begin to pray
The sky is clouded and the moonshine can't find it's way
It's 5 to midnight and I just wanna run away
Bridge:
Hold me tight – Let me go – Give me more – I grow cold tonight
Kiss me now – Let me be – Open up – Set me free tonight, oohoo
chorus:
And the stars are still shining above our heads and our hearts are still beating inside of our chests
And the clouds are still raining in the rivers at night and the oceans run full
And I am still in love with you – and I am still in love with you
It's 5 to midnight seems like heaven might close it's gates
My body's weak and my lungs want to take a break
The tide is turning and the darkness begins to fade
It's 5 to midnight and I'm done being afraid
And I am still in love with you – and I am still in love with you
It's 5 to midnight and the band just started to play
My ears are tired and my eyes shut down for rest
The full moon's shining and my shadows begin to shake
It's 5 to midnight and I just wanna stay awake!
Bridge:
Hold me tight – Let me go – Give me more – I grow old tonight
Kiss me now – Let me be – Open up – Set me free tonight, oohoo
chorus:
And the stars are still shining above our heads and our hearts are still beating inside of our chests
And the clouds are still raining in the rivers at night and the oceans run full
And I am still in love with you – and I am still in love with you
It's 5 to midnight and the band just started to play...
